Jerry Du
Jerry is a designer and aspiring Recreational Therapist who is passionate about using creativity to promote mental health, inclusion, and meaningful participation. He believes that creativity is not only something we produce, but also something that helps people heal, connect, and make sense of their experiences.
Jerry’s career began in industrial design, where he focused on creating better user experiences. Over time, he realized that while thoughtful design can improve how people interact with products, it often falls short of addressing deeper emotional and mental health needs. This inspired him to explore how creativity could be used not just to solve problems, but to genuinely support wellbeing, leading him to pursue the MSc in Creative Arts and Mental Health.
The program broadened his understanding of creativity as a therapeutic and person-centered practice, shaping the way he thinks about mental health, participation, and human connection.
Jerry is currently based in Canada, where he is training to become a Recreational Therapist. His long-term aspiration is to integrate recreation, creative expression, and evidence-based practice to improve the quality of life of people experiencing mental health challenges. Alongside his studies, he creates short-form videos that use humor to promote empathy, challenge stereotypes, and encourage more inclusive conversations about mental health and marginalized communities. His goal is to bridge creativity, healthcare, and education, helping more people experience the therapeutic value of meaningful activities in everyday life.
